ALSC releases 2024 Summer Reading Lists and New Gardening & Flora List

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has released its 2024 Summer Reading Lists, which are filled with engaging book titles plus recommended digital media options to keep children reading and exploring throughout the summer.

Titles are organized into four separate lists by age range: birth-preschool, K-2nd grade, 3rd–5th grades and 6th-8th grades and are free to download on the ALSC website.

Also available this summer is a special Gardening & Flora booklist, featuring fresh and fun books for nature lovers, backyard explorers and budding horticulturalists. Created for the American Horticultural Society’s 32nd annual National Children & Youth Garden Symposium, the list includes beautifully illustrated fiction and nonfiction titles that highlight flora and gardening concepts for children from birth to grade 7. This list is also free to download on the ALSC site.

The Summer Reading Lists and Gardening & Flora List were compiled and annotated by ALSC’s Quicklists Consulting committee. Libraries, daycares and other organizations working with youth are encouraged to copy and share these recommended reads with patrons, students and community partners to help kindle a love of reading and life-long learning in young people.
