Media Literacy @ Your Library
Media Literacy @ Your Library was a learning and prototyping project of the American Library Association (ALA). The goal of this project was to train library workers to better equip their adult patrons to be discerning news consumers.
In 2017, ALA and the Center for News Literacy @ Stony Brook University worked with teams from five public libraries to adapt existing media literacy training to serve the needs of public librarians and the communities they serve.
The Media Literacy @ Your Library cohort members were:
- Skokie Public Library (Illinois)
- Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (Huntsville, Alabama)
- Estes Valley Library (Estes Park, Colorado)
- Auburn Public Library (Maine)
- San Diego Public Library (California)
The cohort teams attended an in-person training and used their skills to conduct related adult public programs in their communities. Team members provided feedback on the training and served as advisers to, and beta testers for, the development of a corresponding web-based curriculum for the library field.
Media Literacy @ Your Library is supported by the Knight Prototype Fund on accurate information, an initiative of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Democracy Fund and the Rita Allen Foundation, which aimed to address concerns about the spread of misinformation and build trust in news.
