Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys
Muslim Journeys Bookshelf
The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf is a collection of 25 books, 4 DVDs, and other programming resources selected to help public audiences in the United States become more familiar with the people, places, history, faith, and cultures of Muslims around the world and within the U.S. The Bookshelf is intended to address both the need and the desire of the American public for trustworthy and accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices and the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations.
Applications for the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf were accepted through October 25, 2012. In January 2013, NEH and ALA announced 953 humanities councils, and public, academic, and community college libraries awarded with the Bookshelf for use in presenting public programs in 2013.
Let’s Talk About It
In addition to the initial grant, NEH and ALA have developed five Let’s Talk About It themes in conjunction with the works included in the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys. Libraries that received the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf were invited to apply for up to $4,500 in programming support for scholar-led reading and discussion programs. Applications for Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys were accepted through March 29, 2013. A total of 125 sites were selected to receive a grant, and presented programs through August 31, 2014.
