Public Awareness Campaigns
Help Spread the Word with Celebration Events
ALA's offices and divisions sponsor a variety of library promotions throughout the year that libraries of all types all across the country can get involved with to promote libraries and create awareness of library issues.
September is Library Card Sign Up Month
Each year thousands of public and school libraries come together each September in a national effort to remind parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all. Library Card Sign-up Month was launched in 1987. You can download free posters, bookmarks, coloring pages, graphics to share with your social media followers, and more at the Library Card Sign Up Month Web Page!
National Library Week 2024: April 7 - 13
National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. This year's theme is "Ready, Set, Library!" You can find free downloadable posters, bookmarks, and social media graphics, in English and Spanish, at the National Library Week Web Page!

Libraries Transform Campaign
The Libraries Transform initiative was launched in 2015 and focused on increasing the public awareness of libraries and the critical role they play in transforming lives and communities through education. It provided a collection of free resources, including graphics, key messages and ideas, that could be used for marketing, outreach, advocacy, and fundraising. More than 15,000 libraries and library advocates joined the campaign. The initiative was retired in September 2022.
Sari Feldman, ALA President 2015-16, officially launched the campaign with funding support from Overdrive, the nation's largest digital content provider to libraries. Ongoing financial support for the campaign was provided by ALA's Library Champions.
Some assets from the initiative are still available at I Love Libraries.
