Advocacy Toolkits & Resources

AdvocacyAdvocacy is integral to achieving libraries’ role in enhancing learning and ensuring access to information for everyone in our communities. Whether at the local, state, or federal level, telling a compelling story to the right decision maker can make a difference in funding and policies related to the valuable services libraries offer. However, being an effective library advocate goes beyond contacting legislators when a critical bill is on the floor for a vote.

Advocacy is a year-round commitment to building meaningful connections with decision makers at every level – relationships we can draw on when the time comes to advocate for a specific bill or issue.

From best practices for engaging elected leaders and local media to one-pagers on issues like copyright, ALA provides resources to help you develop a year-round advocacy strategy and information to enhance your knowledge of library-related policy issues.
